The Day at Last

Been out. Been back.

Been around the block twice.

Been down the road. Been around the city.

Been lost. Been gone. Been outta town.

Been hurting my feet.

Been making a mess.

Been cleaning it up - twice.

Been making amends.

Been fucking it up, royally.

I went to a cocktail party on Friday night, we made cesars and grapefruit, cranberry, sprite and peach schnapps drinks - which were amazing. It was so funny to see everyone dressed up in suits and dresses (I wasn't so dressed up), we all looked so fantastic in sweater vests and red lipstick. It was tres Mad Men. The last few pictures on my disposable camera were used up on random party photos, I hope they turn out alright, but we'll have to see. I love film, but I hate not knowing how the photo's will turn out.

The next day I went to McDonald's in heels, as all the classiest people do. It was a proud moment in my life.

"What are you, in mourning?"

"Always."

It's spring, I'm wearing black. People always comment on wardrobe, it seems to be primarily shades, well, if we're being honest, black. I don't really enjoy bright, vibrant colours - save red - muted palettes seem to suit my style a little more. Anyways, I look I've been raised from the dead to most, being almost translucent and half-awake for basically my entire life. This sweater has a hole in the shoulder, I looked down the other day, and, upon seeing my skin, thought, I'm not wearing a white shirt. I am really that pale.

I am still reading Rebecca, I haven't had much time to read because of exams. The cover is gone, of course, and I was afraid of ripping the first page off when I began reading it, but I added more tape to the edges, so it should be fine now. Instead of reading about the happenings of Manderly last night, I watched the first season of Sex and the City at two in the morning - how cliche, I know. Whenever I watch old episode SATC I think about how far the movies are from where the show started - being about independent women trying to get by in New York City - whereas the movie seemed like some cheesy wedding magazine with a plot line.

I do not appreciate cheesy wedding magazines - I'll stick with thirty year olds exploring their sexuality.

I want to emulate these outfits this month. As usual, anything high waisted is almost automatically admitted to my closet, but these are three outfits that need a spot - it's non-negotiable. Twiggy is just adorable, and the shape of that dress is timeless, the pattern might be a tad 1970's, but in a solid color or a floral with a pair of chunky heels it would be completely modern. The second look is adorable, and completely sailor-inspired. I love the simplicity of this, it seems like the kind of dress you can throw on for errands or a walk. Now, the third is certainly the most 'now' outfit. It's contemporary, it's cute, and it's minimal; everything that I love. And the pastel tones just drive me mad! They strike a perfect balance between a feminine pallet and the minimalistic skirt/shirt combination.
I want to wear these all summer.

Lo Lee Ta

Dress: Zara
Socks: Wolford
Tights:Wolford
Sweater: Gap

It's freezing today, as it has been for the past week. I'm partial to the cold, but when the temperature dips below -20 it's time to lock myself up indoors. I was supposed to see Under Milkwood (the Dylan Thomas radio play, which had been adapted for the stage) last night, but ended up seeing The Producers. The play dragged on near the end - which was the point I suppose - but certainly had funny moments. All the historical WW2 references were wonderful, and it almost counted towards studying for my exam this week. So, the above is what I wore, in addition to my black oxfords, I froze of course, but the majority of the evening was spent inside anyways.
I spent the day reading Lolita, which is certainly the most poetic novel I have ever read (maybe I haven't read enough yet). The concept is disturbing, but it's told in such a beautiful way that you forget how creepy the situation really is. As an end to a completely uneventful day, I am now watching Scary Movie 2 (the only one worth watching), having a cup of very milky tea, and craving food on account of the lovely smells coming from my kitchen.
