iPhone Photos

I love my iPhone. There is no other way to describe it, we're in an intimate relationship - my phone provides me with twitter, tumblr and the daily weather report, while I give it the warmth of my friendship. Or something twisted like that. I neglected to take my DSLR to the Lilac festival on Sunday, so, my iPhone took over photo wise.

We went to the most adorable café that had gold mirrors of different shapes and sizes all over the walls, and white coffee cups lined up on a ledge. It was cheap and cute, so we are definitely going again. It was called Mission Diner, and the waitress kept complimenting my friend and I, which is definitely a plus. We walked down the street, through the throngs of people lined up to look at all the different vendors. Eventually, we came upon a used book store having a sale, and my friends and I got a whole bag of books (30 to 40 total I would estimate) for 15 dollars, five each.

We spent the rest of the very hot day walking around downtown, stopping in on vintage shops and drinking cold drinks at the absolutely adorable Café Beano. I think we need to go down again, because I need an 18 dollar cat necklace from my favorite vintage store, it's non-negotiable.

I reach the age of majority next week woot! So I'll be pushing my liver to it's limit.

Au Revoir mes amis

I went to a cocktail party on Friday night, we made cesars and grapefruit, cranberry, sprite and peach schnapps drinks - which were amazing. It was so funny to see everyone dressed up in suits and dresses (I wasn't so dressed up), we all looked so fantastic in sweater vests and red lipstick. It was tres Mad Men. The last few pictures on my disposable camera were used up on random party photos, I hope they turn out alright, but we'll have to see. I love film, but I hate not knowing how the photo's will turn out.

The next day I went to McDonald's in heels, as all the classiest people do. It was a proud moment in my life.

It's raining
It's pouring
The old man is snoring.

I like pretty books.

Well, I enjoy books in general. I 'liberated' the first book of English poetry from a dusty shelf in classroom - no one will miss it - and, I think, it is one of the prettiest books I own. Both books are Penguin, the way they produce their books is wonderful, the covers are always so classic. They're one of my favorite publishers (Faber is another), and yes, I have favorite publishers, and record companies for that matter; what does that say about me? The second is Ariel by André Maurois. I have absolutely no idea what the novel is about or anything about the writer, but the cover was so pretty and the first couple sentences were so good that I had to get it. I couldn't possibly have left it alone on the shelf with all the other unloved books! Anyways, it was only five dollars.

I felt silly, and painted my nails blue. I told my sister I could paint my toes red, nails blue and I'd be white, so it was like the British flag. After I'd said it I realized how absolutely ridiculous it sounded.
It's been raining nonstop since Monday. The sky is grey, the air cold, and I think I'm the only one enjoying this less than seasonal May weather. I pulled out my ugliest second hand sweater and curled up with a cup of tea and books.

The other day, my mother told me I didn't wear pants often enough - I hardly ever wear pants, this was the first time in at least a month - and the told me that she insisted upon taking me shopping for new ones. Now, it's not that I object to shopping, but I fail to see how it is any of her business whether or not I choose to wear pants! I told her I would wear what I pleased. And, a couple days later when I saw fit, I rolled up the cuffs of one of my two pairs of jeans and wore them out.

Film Favorites

The First Days of Spring - A Film By Noah And The Whale from charlie fink on Vimeo.

CRYSTAL FIGHTERS "AT HOME" ((OFFICIAL VIDEO)) from Crystal Fighters on Vimeo.

Pistachio French Macaron from dulcedelight on Vimeo.

The Ghosts (Teaser #1) from Eddie O'KEEFE on Vimeo.

These are some of the videos on vimeo I've really enjoyed this month; two music videos/films, a movie trailer, and a recipe for the ever wonderful French Macarons! I would certainly recommend an account on the site - I just got one - it's so superior to youtube. The films are creative and lovely, I spend too much time surfing through all of the latest uploads.

I've graduated, or so they tell me. Considering I have a lofty three weeks of school left I don't quite believe them. The celebration was terribly cliché, though, what kind of event would it be without dried out chicken and dense chocolate cake. As for my friends, they were all terribly cute in their black and white formal wear, our table was colour coordinated, a complete coincidence.

I felt so completely out of place throughout the after grad. It was held at this club downtown, and the silly, immature people at my school who, apparently, cannot hold their liquor were throwing up all over themselves by midnight. My feet were pained throughout the night, changing from one pair of heel which rubbed the backs of my feet, to another which made the balls of my feet feel as though they are on fire. In the early morning, we all piled into cabs and went to my friends house; so we drank and danced and slept on the floor. It was a pretty decent evening, but I'm mostly looking forward to my friends cocktail party next weekend - we'll all dress up in pretty dresses and drink martini's!

Au revoir.

I finally deleted my facebook account, and, in doing so, condensed my 1 500 + tagged/posted photos into 175 I actually felt the need to keep. These are all from last year, some from two summers ago, last spring, and last January when I had my I'm-drugged-out Pete Doherty thing going on (refer to the blonde photo 4 down). I haven't taken too many photo's lately, but I love to look back on the times when I was always carrying my camera. Though, I will be experimenting with film this weekend, since I'm buying a few disposable cameras to use at my graduation and while I'm camping.

Pure Butter and Vanilla

Why on Earth have these heavenly delights been forced into my kitchen (I think I may have made the mistake of baking them). I will have no choice but to gorge myself on milk and cookies all evening, my will-power, or lack-there-of is powerless against the buttery goodness. This is not good for ones figure, especially when wearing a nipped-in waist!
I've been dying for a milkshake for about two days now, the warm weather has gotten to me and all I can think about is having a beautiful strawberry milkshake on a hot day. It's all I've talked about since, I think I'm going to be begin losing friends over this slight obsession! But not all is lost, milkshake day has been scheduled for Tuesday, yum.
For now I will make due with the butter, flour and vanilla mixture dubbed the 'cookie.'

"What are you, in mourning?"

"Always."

It's spring, I'm wearing black. People always comment on wardrobe, it seems to be primarily shades, well, if we're being honest, black. I don't really enjoy bright, vibrant colours - save red - muted palettes seem to suit my style a little more. Anyways, I look I've been raised from the dead to most, being almost translucent and half-awake for basically my entire life. This sweater has a hole in the shoulder, I looked down the other day, and, upon seeing my skin, thought, I'm not wearing a white shirt. I am really that pale.

I am still reading Rebecca, I haven't had much time to read because of exams. The cover is gone, of course, and I was afraid of ripping the first page off when I began reading it, but I added more tape to the edges, so it should be fine now. Instead of reading about the happenings of Manderly last night, I watched the first season of Sex and the City at two in the morning - how cliche, I know. Whenever I watch old episode SATC I think about how far the movies are from where the show started - being about independent women trying to get by in New York City - whereas the movie seemed like some cheesy wedding magazine with a plot line.

I do not appreciate cheesy wedding magazines - I'll stick with thirty year olds exploring their sexuality.

Daphne Du Maurier may not be my most favorite author - Colette takes that prize - but she wrote an amazing novel by the name of Rebecca. I first came across an excerpt from the book on an English AP exam, and the name of my blog, Blasted Blue Stocking, came from the dialogue. The part I had read was so lovely I decided I had to seek the book out an read it. Luckily, my teacher was retiring that semester and, like any good bohemian, moving to the middle of nowhere. So, she gave away books to our class. She put this box full on the desk next to mine, and within seconds the class had charged on it - only in advanced placement, huh? Being my lucky self, I managed to grab some penguin book without a cover (along with many others, I was not afraid to push) which happened to be Rebecca.
I've just gotten to it now, and it has to be one of the best books I've read, and I've got quite the collection of novels. Though, it's not as good as some, Rebecca certainly makes my top 5. I'm only about halfway through, but the story is habitually tragic, and the characters flawed - all the makings of a favorite novel in my case. I've picked up a couple Daphne Du Maurier books over the years, so I'm terribly excited to read them, because she is obviously a wonderful writer and, judging from photos, quite pretty. That, and we definitely shared a hair cut, when I want to feel supremely cultured I'll say I took mine from the lovely Daphne.
